MISSION

Vonnie Holliday is one who constantly does for others. Whether it is weekly conversations with youth mentees, community service through the Miami Dolphins, or making monetary donations to worthy causes, philanthropy is extremely important to this 11 year NFL veteran. “ As professional athletes, we make a great living and donating money to worthy causes is commendable, but I think putting in time is just as, if not more important.”

In the spirit of his giving nature, Vonnie created The Vonnie Holliday Foundation in 2001, a 501(c)(3) organization. The purpose of the Vonnie Holiday Foundation is to improve the quality of life of citizens in underserved communities by donating time and monetary resources.

Since its inception, the Foundation has improved the lives of those in many communities. During his tenure in Green Bay, Vonnie started the “Kids Company” in Richmond, WS, an organization that benefits at risk youth. As a Dolphin, Vonnie has done extensive work with the “Reach for the Stars” foundation, which benefits children with Cystic Fibrosis. He also donates his time by visiting children at the Mt. Sinai Hospital in Miami.

Most of the Foundation’s resources have benefited Vonnie’s hometown of Camden, SC. Vonnie is determined through the Foundation, to give back to the community that has given him so much. For the past eight years, the Foundation in conjunction with the United Way has sponsored a Turkey Giveaway to families in need. Vonnie is also the honorary chairperson for the fundraising efforts of the United Way of Kershaw County, SC. The Foundation also does work with the Council on Aging in Camden. Vonnie annually hosts the Vonnie Holliday Bulldog Football Camp at his alma mater, Camden High School. His mother, Suzannah Holliday, along with sister’s Jackie and Annie, spearhead many of the Foundation’s efforts.

In 2008, Vonnie decided to expand the efforts of his foundation. “With gang violence at an all time high, I really want to create a safe place for youth in my home community to go. I envision them having a physical building to do homework, enrichment and sports activities.” The Vonnie Holliday Foundation is teaming up with The Boys and Girls Club of the Midlands to launch “The Kali Holliday Boys and Girls Club of Camden”. The club, named in honor of Vonnie’s late grandmother, will provide the children of the community a safe haven.

The major fundraising event for the Foundation in 2008-2009 will be “The 1st Annual Vonnie Holliday Foundation Celebrity Golf Tournament.” The Foundation along with local, regional and national corporate sponsors will join together to raise funds for the children in the Camden/Greater Columbia community.
